So… I talked to an old friend today. I was so excited about it. He was… just the same as I remembered in a way… but different in a lot of ways too.  The conversation flowed almost too quickly, jumping from where I work to what he’s been doing for the last few years to our childhood umpteen years ago to what might come in the future.  It was like trying to squeeze the last eight years into 30 minutes. I wanted more time to share and digest and talk, but I’m grateful for what I got. Mostly what I thought was, “I’m talking to one of the best friends I’ve ever had, and I had no clue what his life’s been like for the last decade.”

I know God doesn’t make mistakes. He doesn’t. He also doesn’t always reveal why things are the way they are. I just wonder what point there might have been in missing so much time with a person I count very dear to me. Was there a reason for it? Is there a reason for everything?  When we hung up, I understood (on a very different level than I had know before) what it’s like to be both happy and sad.

Faith is a verb.

Some of the things we’re believing God for will never happen in our lives because we stand in hope instead of walking in faith.

"I wonder how many believers today realize that faith is not merely believing that Christ died for our sins. Faith is also being confident that His way is better than sin. His will is more wise. His help is more sure. His promises more precious. And His reward more satisfying. Faith begins with a backward look at the cross, but it lives with a forward look at the promises."

With my hands lifted up

And my mouth filled with praise,

With a heart of thanksgiving,

I will bless thee, O Lord.

"For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions, and will turn away from listening to the truth and wander off into myths."
